Thresholds

Every year the people who run the Thresholds short story forum hold a feature writing competition. I entered it for the first time this year, with a piece that drew heavily on this blog post from around this time last year. I didn’t make the long list, but they decided my piece was worth publishing anyway, which is nice. And here it is. I still think it’s relevant.

  1. Good article. Humour always comes over at its best when it digs a bit deeper into our feelings or reflects some sort of real insight into our lives. Love the story about the friend lending a small bucket, we’ve all had one of those.
(I did try to comment on the site but had to register first and now they’re checking me out…)

  2. Thanks 🙂 I do think that humour can sometimes go places that “straight” writing can’t, and “The Exploding Boy” has some really excellent examples.
